Meccano Magazine
OCR'd PDFs of American Meccano Magazines
All the American Meccano Magazines have now been put through OCR software and the text placed in an invisible layer behind the scanned text. Using any PDF reader you can now select and copy this text as required.
Note that there are a few deficiencies, caused by the limitation of the OCR software and/or the poor text quality in some of the scanned Meccano magazines (caused by high compression of the scanned image file or poor text quality in early magazines). Note that in some of the adverts when text is close to images that the text is not always captured properly. Also it sometimes doesn't always follow columns properly. Another problem is that the OCR software did not seem to be able to reliably detect ¼, ½ or ¾ - but this is only really a problem in the Meccano model instructions.
Having said all that, the text recognition in the most of the articles is actually pretty good.
I have noticed that Microsoft Edge appears to have a bug in it, and on some pages it freezes when you try and select text - others pages are OK. Other pdf readers and browsers (that I have tried) appear to be OK.
