1916-1921

There were many amendments/corrections to Book 1 and Book A (outfit 1-3) models during this era. These can be mainly catagorised as follows:-

• Addition or amendments to the accompanying text and additional figures provided.
• Changes to the parts required lists for models.
• Some models were redesigned or had new pictures.
• Some new models were added and others deleted.
• A note was added against those models which used parts which were not included in the outfit.
• The 'How to Continue' note was amended

  • Model numbering corrected
    In No.16 Book 1 Edition 1, there was an error in model numbering - No.321 did not exist and there were two No.325 models. This was now corrected so that models 322-325 were renumbered as 321-325
    
  • Some new models were added and others deleted.
    325 - 'Transporter Bridge' was deleted and replaced by 'Stiff Leg Derrick'
    326 - 'Clock, worked with the Meccano Clockwork Motor' was deleted

  316 - Meccanograph - Model redesigned
• Changes between No.16 Book 1 Edition 3 and Edition 4

    100 - Punching Machine - Text added together with associated numbers on the model picture.

    177 - Drop the Nigger - Text added
    178 - Newton's Disk - Text added
    216 - Mechanical Cross Bow - Additional text and associated Fig 216A added
    235 - Periscope - Text added
    280 - Steam Shovel - Fig 280A added
    281 - Beam Engine - Text added
    301- Escalator - Reference numbers on the model picture made much smaller
    311 - Electric Loco - Text amended and associated Fig 311B added

    165 - Tip Wagon - The parts required list had been swapped with model 170 - Motor Dump Truck - Error now corrected
    179 - Wire Rope Maker - 8 of 12 → 10 of 12

    199 - Automobile - Model picture significantly increased in size
    212 - Swivelling and Luffing Jib Crane - Model redesigned

    309 - Loom - Model redesigned
    315 - Meccanograph - Model redesigned
    318 - Loom - Model redesigned

  • Some new models were added and others deleted.
    181 - 'Conductor's Punch' deleted and replaced by 'Trunk Hesistor'
    204 - 'Harmonograph' deleted and replaced by 'Motor Plough'
    206 - 'Drilling Machine' deleted and replaced by 'Swinging Hot Saw'
    273 - 'Coal Tip' deleted and replaced by 'Travelling Repair Tower'
    310 - Loom - Model deleted and models 311-319 renumbered 310-318
    320 - Motor Car Chassis - Model deleted and models 321-325 were renumbered 319-323
    
• Changes between No.16 Book 1 Edition 4 and Edition 5
  306 - Tunnelling Machine - Fig 306A changed and text amended to suit
  318 - Loom - Model redesigned (Minor change)
  323 - Stiff Leg Derrick - Error on page 130 of edition 3 which referred to it as model 324 corrected.

  237 - Plough - this model was changed from an outfit 4 model to an outfit 5 model and renumbered as 264. Models 238→264 renumbered as 237→263 to suit.

  The numbering of models 248 (Railroad Signals) and 249 (Revolving Aeroplane) are swapped over in this manual only.
