Automat / Compact Technik Construction Sets

Automat was a a constructional system aimed at Technical Education. It produced specialist technical manuals for education to go with the sets. It was made in Switzerland by Automat Precision Engineering Ltd in the late 1950s. In 1965 the ompany changed to Automat Service international of Germany. In the mid to late 1970s the company was called Compact Technik GmbH. The system is still being made. These days it appears to be called Compact Technik rather than Automat. See the company's website https://www.knotech.de/en/products/compact-technik/

There are two main phases of this system:-
a) Up to the mid 1960s, angle girders were used for the framework.
b) From the mid 1960s, square alloy tubes and other sections were used for the framework.

Phase a) (late 1950s to mid 1960s)
