Titan Construction Sets
Titan was a Meccano-like construction system. It was made in Germany from about 1948 to about 1960
This system can be split into three distinct phases.
Phase 1 - (Titan[a](1)) - The original system in 1948 with natural dull steel gray parts. Sets 00, 0, 1 and later 2 together with conversion sets.
Phase 2 - (Titan[a](2)) - Thought to be very similar to the phase 1 with the same (or very similar) sets, except that most parts are now painted.
Phase 3 - (Titan[b]) - The sets were revised and renumbered as 50, 51, 52, 53 and 54 together with conversion sets 50A, 51A, 52A and 53A. Only the two basic set 50 and 51 could be bought in a single box (the 50 also available in a cardboard box), the other sets were made up by stacking additional units on 51 until you reach the desired set. Then the set 54, top of the range, is composed of four drawers (51, 51A, 52A and 53A).
This phase is by far the most common version of Titan to be found.
NOTE - There are some "typical" parts in Phase 1 and almost certainly also in Phase 2 which do not exist in Phase 3 - namely discs and pulleys without hub 22 mm. diameter with three holes (including the central one), and pulleys without hub 35 mm. diameter with five holes (including the central one).
